Longhorn Network to Mark 50th Anniversary of JFK Assassination

Distinguished Alumnus Ceremony and Texas Research Also Spotlighted in Fall Line-up

Four Central Texans will recall their personal experiences from Nov. 22, 1963, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, on an upcoming program “LBJ Library Presents: Perspectives on 11/22/1963” airing live on Longhorn Network.

The LBJ Library will host the event on Tuesday, Oct. 29 in the LBJ Auditorium, to air live on Longhorn Network from 7-8:30 p.m. ET/ 6-7:30 p.m. CT. Moderating the program will be Neal Spelce, former KTBC-TV Austin News Anchor, who was working as an anchor in 1963 at the time of the assassination.

In addition, the “2013 Distinguished Alumnus Awards” honoring six Texas Exes and “Game Changers: Janet Walkow” will air exclusively on Longhorn Network in November.

Walkow, director of UT’s Drug Dynamics Institute, will discuss how the interactive environment of the University fosters cooperative efforts between scientists and investigators to find solutions to biomedical, pharmaceutical and public health issues. This program will air on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 3:30 p.m. ET / 2:30 p.m. CT.

Created in 1958, the 2013 Distinguished Alumnus Awards will honor six Texas Exes who have excelled professionally and through service to the University of Texas at Austin. This program will air on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET/ 6:30 p.m. CT.
