With only three weeks left in the regular season every game counts and ESPN has top games all weekend long. No. 10 Florida at No. 19 Auburn headlines the schedule this week with game two of the series airing on Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and game three airing on Sunday, April 28, at 1 p.m. on ESPN. No. 22 Kentucky at No. 3 Alabama will also appear on ESPN on Saturday at 9 p.m. ET. In total, 15 games will be available throughout the weekend across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and SEC Network and another 110+ available digitally across ESPN3, ACC Network Extra, SEC Network+ and ESPN+.
The complete No. 21 Georgia at No. 20 South Carolina series will be available with game one airing on SEC Network on Friday, April 26, at 6 p.m. Games two and three will air on ESPN2 on Saturday at noon and Sunday at 3 p.m. A Spanish-language feed will be available for game 3 on ESPN3.
Other ranked teams appearing this weekend include No. 3 Alabama, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 18 Ole Miss, No. 22 Kentucky, No. 24 Arkansas and No. 25 Tulsa.
7Innings Podcast Television Special
Building on the popularity of the weekly podcast, 7Innings Podcast Softball Featured will air Sunday, April 28, at 5 p.m. on ESPNU. The show—hosted by Holly Rowe—will include five features on college softball players from top programs around the country.
- Danielle Gibson, Arkansas
Earlier this season, Arkansas’ Danielle Gibson completed the “Home Run Cycle”. That means she hit four home runs in one game; a solo shot, two-run, three-run and a grand slam. The feat is so rare that it has only been done TWICE in over 100 years of recorded baseball and softball. Once in 1998 by a Double-A baseball player, and once in 2013 by a Georgetown Softball player. - Meghan King, Florida State
Meghan King led her team to a National Championship in 2018. Now, we take a look at what continues to drive her on and off the field. - Taylor McQuillin, Arizona
Taylor McQuillin was born with Duane’s Syndrome which left her legally blind in her left eye. Despite her challenges, Taylor was Gatorade National Player of the Year in high school and is now in her senior season at Arizona as the ace of the pitching staff. - Justus Perry, Auburn
Justus’ parents, Michael and Leslie Perry, legally divorced so their daughter could play softball in Alabama. When the Perry’s moved south from Minnesota they ended up in two different parts of Alabama—Leslie in Auburn for work and Michael and Justus in Jasper to be closer to her summer league team and Curry High School. When Justus enrolled at Curry High School, the athletic director informed her that she would be ineligible to play softball because her parents had two permanent residences. To remedy the situation, the Perry’s hired an attorney and legally divorced. Once the paperwork was submitted, Justus was eligible to play her senior season of softball. - Samoan Sisterhood, Mississippi State
The Samoan islands are over 6,000 miles away from Starkville, Miss. but that didn’t stop a Samoan Sisterhood from forming in Stark-Vegas. Mississippi State has three players and one assistant coach of Samoan heritage. The entire team has embraced the culture, even changing their home run celebration to the “Haka”.
This week’s edition of 7Innings Podcast, “Group Hugs,” is out now on ESPN Audio, iTunes and Spotify. Jessica Mendoza rejoins Beth Mowins and the crew to talk paid third assistant coaches, the RIP shakeup, spotlight Group 5 schools and Michele Smith remembers coaching legend Ralph Raymond.
