ESPN Inc. at UEFA EURO 2016

More than 300 hours of live coverage across ESPN TV networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes)

ESPN’s unprecedented coverage of UEFA European Football Championship 2016 across 10 cities in France will begin on Friday, June 10, with the opening match — France vs. Romania — live on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and WatchESPN from Stade de France in Paris at 2 p.m. ET.  Beyond its exclusive presentation in English and Spanish in the United States, ESPN is also the television home of UEFA EURO 2016 in the Caribbean and in India via SONY ESPN channels.

UEFA EURO 2016 (June 10 – July 10), will be the company’s most comprehensive coverage of this quadrennial event, which has increasingly grown each year as European soccer has increased its foothold in the sports marketplace in the United States.  ESPN television networks will carry more than 300 live hours of UEFA EURO 2016 content combined during the competition. ESPN televised all 31 matches in 2008 and 2012. This summer, the event was expanded to 24 teams – leading to 51 matches. Highlights:

PREGAME, HALFTIME AND POSTGAME SEGMENTS

ESPN match telecasts for the UEFA European Football Championship will include pregame, halftime and postgame studio segments.

SportsCenter:

SportsCenter will feature expanded UEFA EURO 2016 content with segments originating from Paris. ESPN’s flagship news and information program will air between morning matches (11-11:30 a.m.) on days with three matches.

ESPN FC: Dan Thomas (host) and a rotating panel of pundits – Shaka Hislop, Paul Mariner, Brain McBride, Alejandro Moreno, et al – will review daily UEFA EURO 2016 matches, as well as soccer news across Europe and other continental soccer events.

Commentators:

ESPN’s match and studio commentators represent one of the best collections of experienced soccer experts anywhere in the world led by three FIFA World Cup champions – Mario Kempes (1978), Frank Lebeouf (1998) and Mauro Camoranesi (2006).

ESPN Digital Platforms:

ESPN digital platforms will present exclusive programming and comprehensive coverage from UEFA EURO 2016. This multiplatform approach will share resources and complement coverage between WatchESPN, ESPN3, ESPNFC.com, ESPNDeportes.com and ESPN.com editions in the U.S., UK, India and Australia. Aspects of ESPN’s coverage, analysis and video will also appear on the recently launched ESPN section of QQ Sports in China. Highlights:

ESPN3 Surround:

In the United States, ESPN3 Surround will deliver exclusive content tied to live events on ESPN linear networks, offering a companion experience in real-time that will complement the big game on television.  For UEFA EURO 2016, ESPN3 Surround will carry four different UEFA EURO 2016 streams for the matches – the Spidercam feed, the Spidercam triple-box feed, the Tactical Cam feed, and the Tactical Cam triple-box feed – offering fans alternate camera angles, experiences and stories around the game. On the four dates with simultaneous matches (June 19-22), the service will carry two alternate feeds for each match.

ESPN Social Media:

Chris Wondoloski (in France) and Lauren Giudice, in the U.S., will combine to lead the creation of shareable content for social activations across ESPN FC handles on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, et al – focusing on the amplification of pre- and post-match events throughout the tournament. Additional social media content will be available across ESPN domestic and international platforms such as @ESPN SportsCenter, English- and Spanish-language versions, ESPN Mexico, ESPN Brazil and more.
