With only five days in, Team USA shines at the Pan American Games Toronto 2015, the second largest multinational and multisport event in the world. Follow the performance of local athletes via ESPN and ESPN Deportes multiplatform coverage from Toronto across TV, radio and digital platforms.
Team USA: Second place in the ranking with a total of 64 medals, after host country Canada (68).
- Gymnast Sam Mikulak became the first man to win gold in the Individual All-Around event in 20 years
- Mikulak is the only US multi-medalist so far, with 2 golds and 1 bronze in his discipline
- Connor Davis sealed a trip to the 2016 Olympics with his gold in the men’s 10m air rifle
- US Men’s Water Polo team also qualifies for Rio 2016
- Natalie Coughlin set a new record in the Games with 53.85 on the 100m of female free style swimming
- Madison Kennedy, Allison Schmitt, Katie Meili and Kelsi Worrell also set a new Pan Am mark in 4X100m female free relay with 3:37.28
- Team USA held the previous record (3:40.66) at the Guadalajara 2011 Games
- For the first time since 2003, both the USA Softball Men’s and Women’s teams will be competing at the Pan American Games
Greater New York City Athletes
- Brooklyn-based Joshua Johnson is fighting with the Softball team in the Round Robin to move to the semifinals, after an inaugural 10-0 victory against the Dominican Republic
- Decisive game against Argentina is scheduled Wednesday, July 15, at 4:30 p.m. ET
- For the first time since 2003, both the USA Softball Men’s and Women’s National Teams are competing at the Pan American Games
- Dominican Olympic athlete from the Bronx Felix Sanchez will compete in Athletics, starting July 18
- Yeisser Ramirez, Miles Chamley-Watson, Nicole Ross, Nzingha Prescod and Daryl Homer will be competing in Fencing, starting on July 20
Latin America owns the rest of the top 10, with Cuba in third place with 44 medals, followed by Colombia (33), Brazil (46), Mexico (35), Argentina (30), Chile (10), Ecuador (16), and Venezuela (9).

About the Pan American Games Toronto 2015: The multinational event features 36 Summer Olympic sports, such as soccer, boxing, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, cycling, judo, etc. More than 6,000 athletes, representing 41 nations from the Americas, are expected to compete in Toronto. This is the third time that Canada hosts the event, and the first held in the providence of Ontario. ESPN has been the U.S. home of the Pan American Games since 2007; the event is held every four years, and serves as a platform for many athletes looking to participate in the Olympic Games.
