College Football: ESPN & ABC Showcase No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 Ohio State & No. 5 Stanford in Prime Time
ESPN networks will carry four of the top five ranked teams – and nine of the top 15 – on Saturday, Sept. 28, highlighted by prime-time telecasts of No. 1 Alabama and No. 5 Stanford on ESPN and No. 4 Ohio State on ABC.
An ESPN Saturday night doubleheader will showcase No. 1 Alabama against undefeated SEC West Division rival No. 21 Ole Miss at 6:30 p.m. ET followed by No. 5 Stanford at one-loss Pac-12 North Division foe Washington State at 10 p.m. The ABC Saturday Night Football Presented by Windows telecast at 8 p.m. will feature No. 4 Ohio State at No. 23 Wisconsin in a matchup of Big Ten Leaders Division opponents.
ESPN College GameDay Headed to LSU at Georgia
ESPN’s iconic college football pregame show, College GameDay Built by The Home Depot, will travel to Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 28, for its three-hour show of features and analysis on ESPN at 9 a.m. The set will originate from Myers Quad on the campus of the University of Georgia, site of the much-anticipated SEC matchup of undefeated LSU (3-0), ranked No. 6 in the country, against the Aaron Murray-led No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs (2-1).
Hosted by Chris Fowler, the GameDay crew consists of analysts Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and David Pollack with reporting by Samantha Ponder, Tom Rinaldi, Scott Van Pelt and Gene Wojciechowski. It will be the first time Pollack has visited his alma mater as a member of the College GameDay team. A defensive end at Georgia, Pollack was just the second Bulldog to be named a three-time All-American. His accolades included 2002 SEC Player of the Year honors, the 2003 and 2004 Ted Hendricks Award and (all in 2004): the Chuck Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award, Lott Trophy and SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Pollack joined ESPN in 2009 and has been a regular on GameDay since 2011.
It is the third visit to Athens – and first since 2008 — for the show, now in its 27th season. The two previous visits: September 27, 2008 (No. 8 Alabama defeated No. 3 Georgia, 41-30) and October 10, 1998 (No. 5 Tennessee defeated No. 7 Georgia, 22-3).
In addition, several studio shows will have live hits from Athens on Friday, including SportsCenter and College Football Live (5 p.m. on ESPN2).

ESPNU Spotlights BYU, Utah and Syracuse with All-Access and Road Trip
ESPNU All-Access: Syracuse will go inside the Syracuse football program on Wednesday with first-year head coach Scott Shafer. He will be wired at practice, along with an all-access look at the unique approach the team is taking to coaching quarterbacks – using Go Pro helmet cams during practice. ESPNU All-Access: Syracuse airs at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
ESPNU Road Trip shines a spotlight on BYU during its home tilt against Utah last weekend – airing on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The crew goes fishing with BYU quarterback Taysom Hill, tees up on the golf course with BYU legendary coach LaVell Edwards and sees what the school’s version of college football tailgating is all about.
This weekend, ESPNU Road Trip heads to Buckeye country for the Wisconsin at Ohio State matchup.
ESPN Films’ The Book of Manning Earns a 1.6 Overnight Average
ESPN Films kicked off its third season of the “SEC Storied” series last night with The Book of Manning, which earned a 1.6 overnight rating from the metered markets, according to Nielsen. The film featured an unprecedented look at Archie Manning and his famous football family.
The top-rated market for The Book of Manning was New Orleans with a 6.5 rating; followed by a 5.5 in Knoxville. The fall slate of films in the 30 for 30 series will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 1, with Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau and will air every Tuesday for six weeks.
ESPN Front Row Spotlight: Volleyball Analyst and CFB Sideline Reporter Maria Taylor
Standing 6 feet, 2 inches tall, Maria Taylor believes she has a built-in advantage as a college football sideline reporter: “I can see over some of those lineman when they are in the huddle and confirm exactly what is going on.”
That’s something play-by-play commentator Joe Tessitore and analyst Matt Millen have come to rely on from Taylor this and every fall Saturday for their games on ESPN (No. 5 Stanford at Washington State, 10 p.m. ET).
Her height often has aided her sports career. Before joining ESPN, Taylor got her first television exposure as a volleyball player at Georgia (2005-08). Tonight, when ESPNU serves up in-state rivals NC State at No. 15 UNC as part of the network’s Wednesday Night Women’s Volleyball series, Taylor will once again be courtside calling one of 10 matches on her ESPN schedule this season. Front Row sat down with Taylor to talk about NCAA volleyball and her atypical work week covering two sports.
