Winter X Europe 2011 Wraps Up With an Incredible Day
Four Exhilarating Finals on Third and Final Day of the Event
The second annual Winter X Games Europe wrapped up in Tignes, France on Friday, with four exciting competitions and bluebird skies.
Snowboard Slopestyle Women’s Finals
Jamie Anderson ruled the day with an incredible run that featured a switch backside 540. Her clean and consistent run earned a score of 95.33 and a spot at the top of the podium. Norway’s Silje Norendal pulled an impressive frontside rodeo 720 on her third run, which earned her a score of 94.00 and the silver medal. And 20-year-old Enni Rukajarvi took the bronze with a score of 93.66.
Snowboard Slopestyle Men’s Finals
Chas Guldemond put on a show during the men’s Slopestyle competition and made Winter X Games history. Earning a score of 99.33, Guldemond’s run was the highest score of any Slopestyle rider in a Winter X Games event and the highest score of any competitor in Winter X Games Europe history. Sebastien Toutant won the silver medal with an equally impressive score of 98.00 and Eric Willett took home the bronze.
Skiing SuperPipe Women’s Finals
Sarah Burke struggled during her first two runs, but pulled it all together on her third and final run to earn a score that won her Winter X Games Europe gold and a place in the history books. Burke landed an Alley-Oop Flatspin 540, a trick that has never been accomplished in a women’s ski pipe contest. With a score of 95.33, Burke also made history by earning the highest women’s Ski SuperPipe score at any Winter X Games event. France’s Anais Cardeux was awarded the silver medal and Devin Logan placed third.
Snowboard SuperPipe Men’s Finals
Louie Vito went to work on his 23rd birthday and came home with a gold medal around his neck. Vito’s run featured a collection of tricks and massive airs, including a series of double cork 1080’s. The birthday boy beat out defending Winter X Games Europe gold medalist Iouri Podladtchikov who had to settle for the silver. Christian Haller placed third.
The total attendance for day three of Winter X Games Europe 2011 was 22,500. Total attendance for the three day event was 74,500. Last year at Winter X Games Europe 2010, the total attendance was 66,200.
