Wimbledon Gentlemen’s QFs Wednesday: Murray-Querrey, Federer-Raonic, Djokovic-Berdych Headline the Action

ESPN continues its exclusive coverage of The Championships, Wimbledon on Wednesday, July 11, with the Gentlemen’s Quarterfinals and Cross Court Coverage – ESPN and ESPN2 all day starting at 8 a.m. ET – for four matches which include three of the ATP’s “Big Four” – Andy Murray (facing American Sam Querrey), Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.  All the action, plus all the televised courts, which begin at either 6 a.m. (Courts 14 and 17) or 6:30 a.m. (Courts 2,3, 12 and 18) – are available on ESPN3 and streaming live on the ESPN App.

Centre Court on ESPN at 8 a.m.

  • 1 Andy Murray vs. No. 24 Sam Querrey
  • 3 Roger Federer vs. No. 6 Milos Raonic

  • 7 Marin Cilic vs. No. 16 Gilles Muller
  • 2 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 11 tomas Berdych

The matchups:

  • Top seed, defending champion and local hero Andy Murray plays No. 24 Sam Querrey of the U.S. who is in the quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.
  • 3 Roger Federer, owner of seven Wimbledon trophies among his 18 Major titles, vs. No. 6 Milos Raonic, who reached the Wimbledon final a year ago. Federer will be seeking revenge for last year’s thrilling semifinal loss to the Canadian.
  • 2 Novak Djokovic, three times the champion at the All England Club and 12 Majors overall, meets No. 11 Tomas Berdych, who reached the Wimbledon final in 2010.
  • 2014 US Open winner No. 7 Marin Cilic faces No. 16 Gilles Muller, the big-serving lefty who out-lasted Rafael Nadal 15-13 in the fifth set of Monday’s Fourth Round match.

Among the eight players:

  • Five of the top 7 seeds, plus Nos. 11, 16 and 24.
  • 34 Major championships: Federer – 18, Djokovic – 12, Murray – 3, Cilic – 1.
  • 14 Wimbledon finals: Federer – 10 (7-3), Murray – 3 (2-1), Berdych – 1 (0-1).
  • Five are in their 30s with Querrey 29, Cilic 28 and Raonic the youngest at 26.
  • Five are 6’4” or taller with Murray 6’3”, Djokovic at 6’2” and Federer the shortest, listed as 6’1”.

Ladies’ Semifinals Thursday

Thursday’s Wimbledon Ladies’ Semifinals include a five-time champion playing the first British woman to reach the semifinals in 39 years (Virginia Wade, 1978) when No. 10 Venus Williams faces No. 6 Jo Konta, and a matchup between the 2015 finalist who won the 2016 French Open and an unseeded woman playing in her first Major semifinal:  No. 14 Garbiñe Muguruza vs. Magdaléna Rybáriková.

Championship Weekend

Action from London will peak with this weekend’s five championships on ESPN:  the Ladies’ Championship and the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Doubles Championships on ESPN on Saturday, July 15; and the Gentlemen’s Championship on Sunday, July 16, followed by the Mixed Doubles Championship.
