WTT to Debut On-Player Wireless Microphones for the First Time in Professional Tennis Competition
The Mylan World TeamTennis (WTT) season continues on ESPN3 on Tuesday, July 18, at 7 p.m. ET, concluding with the finals live on ESPN2 on Saturday, Aug. 5. The 42nd season kicked off Sunday, July 16, with the New York Empire defeating the Philadelphia Freedoms 20-18.
New this year, ESPN teamed up with Mylan WTT to introduce Quantum5X (Q5X) QT-5100 PlayerMics, on-player wireless microphones that capture on-court action. For the first time in professional tennis competition, players will wear wireless microphone transmitters, bringing unprecedented audio sounds and effects to the league’s live broadcasts.
Highlights throughout the season include:
- On July 18, former World No. 1, Hall of Famer and two-time WTT Female MVP Martina Hingis takes the court with the Washington Kastles as the team celebrates their 10th anniversary season and bid for a record seventh WTT championship against the New York Empire and former World No. 7 Mardy Fish.
- On July 20, top-ranked doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan play for the Kastles against the defending champions San Diego Aviators with American Ryan Harrison.
- On July 21, the Aviators and Harrison take the court against the Springfield Lasers with top-ranked American Jack Sock, playing his inaugural season with Mylan WTT.
- On July 24, American superstar Venus Williams will join the action with the Kastles against American Sloane Stephens making her Philadelphia Freedoms debut in her second WTT season.
- On July 25, the Empire and Fish will take on the Philadelphia Freedoms and Americans Stephens and Hall of Famer Andy Roddick – returning for his 10th WTT Season.
- On July 27, Eugenie Bouchard joins the Empire against last year’s runner-up Orange County Breakers.
The Mylan WTT Finals air Saturday, Aug. 5 at 11 p.m. with ESPN2 joining the coverage at 12 a.m. as the best in professional team tennis battle for the King Trophy, named after the league co-founder Billie Jean King.
