Boston Red Sox to Host New York Yankees on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball Sept. 18

David Ortiz Expected to Make Final Sunday Night Baseball Appearance

ESPN today announced its game selection for the Sept.18, 2016 edition of Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell: the Boston Red Sox, involved in the hotly contested American League playoff race, will host their rivals, the New York Yankees, who are also still alive in the AL playoff picture, at 8 p.m. ET. In addition, Red Sox icon David Ortiz is expected to make his 60th and final Sunday Night Baseball appearance of his storied career.

David Ortiz’s key Sunday Night Baseball stats:

  • 60 RBIs, most all-time;
  • 21 home runs, second-most all-time behind Alex Rodriguez (22);
  • 59 games played as of (8/31/16), third-most all-time behind Derek Jeter (71), Alex Rodriguez (65).

Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell airs each week at 8 p.m. on ESPNESPN Deportes, ESPN Radio, ESPN Deportes Radio and WatchESPN. The voice of Sunday Night BaseballDan Shulman, is joined by analysts Aaron Boone and Jessica Mendoza and reporter Buster Olney on ESPN. Jon Sciambi and analyst Chris Singleton describe the action for ESPN Radio.

Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown presented by Chevrolet on ESPN precedes Sunday Night Baseball at 7 p.m. with host Karl Ravech, analyst Dallas Braden and insider Tim Kurkjian.

This Sept. 18 telecast marks the sixth appearance this season on Sunday Night Baseball for the Red Sox and the fourth for the Yankees.

The Washington Nationals and Bryce Harper will visit the New York Mets and Jose Reyes at Citi Field on Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell, Sept. 4, at 8 p.m.
