FIL World Lacrosse Championship Gets Underway July 10 on ESPN2

ESPNU and ESPN3 will carry the entire 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Lacrosse Championship presented by Trusted Choice – over 40 games from DICK’S Sporting Goods Park in Denver – Thursday, July 10, through Saturday, July 19. Team USA, playing a minimum of five games on ESPNU, will join nearly 40 nations in the event.

The United States opens Thursday, July 10, against Canada in pool play at 9 p.m. on ESPN2. The game is a rematch of the 2010 championship game, which USA won 12-10. ESPNU’s coverage begins with Australia vs. USA on Saturday, July 12, at 7 p.m., and ESPN3’s package starts with the Netherlands vs. China on Friday, July 11, at 10 a.m.

Top players in the FIL World Lacrosse Championship include: Brendan Mundorf (attack), Paul Rabil (midfield) and Max Seibald (midfield) for the United States; John Grant Jr. (attack) and Brodie Merrill (defense) for Team Canada; and 2014 Tewaaraton Award winners Lyle and Miles Thompson (attack) for Team Iroquois.

ESPN3.com in Australia and New Zealand, the live streaming service available to ESPN television subscribers, will also carry complete live and on-demand coverage of the World Lacrosse Championships throughout the tournament. ESPN Player — the company’s sports streaming service for more than 50 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa — is also launching a special channel to cover the World Lacrosse Championships.  ESPN Player – World Lacrosse will have exclusive coverage of 43 games from the tournament across the region, including all pool games for the world’s top six teams (USA, Canada, England, Australia, Japan and Iroquois Nationals), both semifinals and the final.

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
