Jimmy V Week for Cancer Research Concludes with Annual Basketball Classics, including No. 1 vs. No. 2

The Jimmy V Week for Cancer Research culminates with the 19th annual Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic Presented by Corona and 12th annual Jimmy V Women’s Basketball Classic Presented by Corona on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Defending national champion and top-ranked Connecticut travels to No. 2 ranked Duke for the women’s event. The two undefeated teams will tip off on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. ET from Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Final Four trio of Dave O’Brien, Doris Burke & Holly Rowe will call the game. espnW.com will have full coverage of the game with reporters onsite, in-depth game preview and postgame analysis.

The game will mark the 52nd all-time meeting between the top two teams in the nation, with the most recent matchup on December 29, 2012, when No. 2 Connecticut hosted No. 1 Stanford (a 61-35 UConn victory). The No.1-ranked team leads the series 32-19. Prior to the women’s tilt, ESPN Classic will re-air two previous No. 1 vs. No. 2 women’s basketball games on Tuesday: at 9 a.m. – No. 1 Baylor defeated No. 2 Connecticut 66-61 on Dec. 18, 2011, and at 11 a.m. – No. 1 Connecticut topped No. 2 Baylor 65-64 on Nov. 16, 2010.

The men’s doubleheader on ESPN and ESPN Radio from Madison Square Garden in NYC matches up Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati at 7 p.m. followed by No. 16 Florida vs. No. 15 Memphis at 9 p.m.

Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
