Robbie Rogers: Out and Back In
Outside the Lines (Sunday, 9 a.m. ET, ESPN)
At 25, professional soccer player Robbie Rogers walked away from the game he loves and announced that he is gay. Currently a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy, Rogers is the first openly gay man to compete in one of the top U.S. professional sports leagues. But, as Julie Foudy reports, Rogers is finding that he is actually facing more of a challenge outside of the game soccer.
“I was like, ‘What do you think’s going to happen? Am I going to walk through the door and turn into ashes?’ He was just like, ‘It might be awkward the first few days, but everyone knows here. You’ll be fine.’” — Robbie Rogers, on the conversation with Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan before his first day with the team
“I mentioned to our players before Robbie came in and trained. I said, ‘Robbie’s coming in, the culture of the locker room should not change.’ That was it. That’s all that was discussed.” — Bruce Arena, Galaxy coach

ESPN takes a look at the 15th anniversary of celebrities, including Will Ferrell, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Murray, singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during Wrigley Field’s 7th inning stretch. Chicago native Jim Belushi narrates the piece chronicling the “Guest Conductors” who’ve taken over for the late Harry Caray who began the tradition.

“They know what they’re getting. When they get a Ditka 7th inning stretch, it’s not a Harry Caray. C’Mon.” — Mike Ditka, ESPN NFL analyst, on his version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”
“You cannot call it ‘Wrigley Stadium.’ It’s Wrigley Field, and there’s not a Cubs fan I’ve come across since that didn’t remind me of it.” — Jeff Gordon, NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion, on his ‘Ballgame” blooper

The Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente clinched the Liga MX Apertura title last December after just three seasons in Mexico’s first division soccer and barely five years since the franchise was created. The dizzying rise of The Dogs, as they’re called, is the result of effective leadership, intelligent management, and, above all, is a source of pride transcending borders.
Puig-mania turning to Puig backlash
Buster Olney
“A scout who saw Yasiel Puig in spring training provided this report back in March:
‘He plays hard — really, really hard. He’s got big-time power, to all fields. He can run like crazy. He’s got a great arm.’ And, the scout said, with zero emotion, ‘Other players are going to hate him.’”
Why Puig is deserving of All-Star bid
ESPN Stats & Information
“Some may disagree with the idea of Puig in the All-Star Game, but the numbers would suggest he deserves it.”
Easy way to make Yasiel Puig an All-Star
Jayson Stark
“What if there were a way to include Puig in the All-Star fun without costing any veteran player his spot? Oh, wait. There is. With my handy-dandy Rising Star roster-spot proposal.”
