NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Regional Semifinals: Top Seeds Joined by Four 6’s and one 12

ESPN and ESPN2’s coverage of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship Presented by Capital One continues Saturday, March 30, from Bridgeport, Conn., and Spokane, Wash. and Sunday, March 31, from Norfolk, Va., and Oklahoma City, Okla. Coverage both days begins at noon.

The top four seeds (Baylor, Notre Dame, Connecticut and Stanford) have advanced, along with the four No. 2’s, but are joined by all four No. 6 seeds (Delaware, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma).  It marks the first time since 2003 that no No. 3 seeds advanced to the round of 16. With a win over No. 3 South Carolina in the second round, Kansas has moved on to the Norfolk Regional, the farthest a No. 12 seed has gone since 1997 when San Francisco reached the regional semifinal.

Rachel Margolis Siegal

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
