Men’s College Hoops: Holiday Hoops Tips Off Saturday, includes No. 5 Florida at No. 8 Arizona

ESPN’s annual Holiday Hoops Presented by Kay Jewelers – celebrating all of the games around the holidays – will tip off with 14 games Saturday, Dec. 15, highlighted by No. 5 Florida at No. 8 Arizona.  The showdown between two of the remaining 14 unbeaten teams starts at 10 p.m. on ESPN. Additional highlights:

  • ESPN3 and ESPNU will combine to televise two games recognizing the 50th anniversary of a game that changed college basketball.  In March 1963, Mississippi State – with an entirely white roster – went up against the state’s “unwritten law” barring schools from competing in racially integrated events.  MSU played Loyola (Ill.) Ramblers at Jenison Field House in East Lansing, Mich.  On Saturday, ESPN3 will offer Mississippi State at Loyola at 8 p.m. (re-aired on ESPNU at 11 p.m.) while ESPNU will televise Tuskegee at Michigan State from Jenison Field House at 9 p.m.  The Governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn, will be in attendance at Loyola and will proclaim it “The Day of Change” in his state.  The ceremony will include most of the players from the 1963 game.
  • ESPN will televise No. 3 Michigan against West Virginia in the Brooklyn Hoops Winter Festival Presented by Honda in Brooklyn, N.Y., at 8 p.m.
