Sixth Annual 76 Classic Field Boasts Preseason Top 25 Contenders

Thanksgiving Weekend Tournament Fields NCAA Participants Kansas and Temple
The 2012 76 Classic field has all eight teams confirmed for the annual event held Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, Nov. 22, 23 & 24, at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center, adjacent to Disneyland. NCAA Elite 8 participant Kansas will be joined in the tournament by Cal, Drake, Georgia Tech, Pacific, Rice, St. Mary’s and Temple.
Tournament field
- Kansas is ranked No. 13 and Cal is ranked No. 24 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll – released Thursday, Oct. 20, while Temple and St. Mary’s each are receiving votes
- Kansas advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA Championship, while Temple reached the third round
- Cal and St. Mary’s earned berths to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT)
Tournament information
The 2012 76 Classic will feature 12 games through three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated will face off in a championship game Sunday, Nov. 27. The Big West will again serve as the event’s sponsoring conference.
The 76 Classic is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN.
The inaugural event was played in 2007, with USC capturing the title. In year’s following, Wake Forest (2008), West Virginia (2009) and UNLV (2010) were all tournament winners.
