BCS Countdown Corner

“This is where the season truly begins as far as the mindset of these football teams…This is a true challenge for coaches and players to continue to play with passion and a carefree attitude. Because I always think there are teams that get to this point, they start to hear that outside noise, they start to coach not to lose, they start to feel that pressure.”
– ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit

The first BCS Standings of the 2011-2012 season were revealed Sunday night on the BCS Countdown Show (8:15p.m., ESPN). Analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Craig James, Robert Smith and Brad Edwards joined host Rece Davis to discuss what it all means for the teams hoping to play in one of the five BCS Bowl games at season’s end. BCS Countdown will air every Sunday night through December 4 when the final standings are released and teams for all five BCS bowls will be revealed.

Rachel Margolis Siegal

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
