X Games 17 – Skateboard Big Air Final

Big Bob Back On Top at Big Air

Burnquist Lands Gold He’s Been Looking for

He’s been in the hunt to reclaim his gold medal for two years, and tonight was his night as Bob Burnquist took to the X Games Big Air ramp to mark his third gold medal in the sport.

“I am really happy that I made my run and the judges felt it was first place,” Burnquist said. “I am stoked about that and it feels great to be on top, obviously.  But I am happy that I am somewhat in one piece.”

Burnquist threw down a huge switch 5 into lein rodeo to solidify his spot in first.

After only landing one run in the 2010 Big Air competition Adam Taylor of Cocoa Beach, Fla., who’s never before won an X Games medal, threw a run that included a nice frontside 360 off the in-ramp to take home silver.

Brazilian Edgard Pereira, who qualified first in 2010 but was unable compete in finals, came back on a mission and earned the bronze medal this year,

Big air riders drop in from either 60 or 80-foot perches and launch themselves over either 50 or 70-foot gaps. After landing the riders skate into a quarterpipe for a run that includes two chances to do Big Air tricks.
