Quotes from Game 2:
Jeff Van Gundy on Dallas’ rebounding:
“This is all about will. If you want to win and you’re serious about winning, Dirk Nowitzki, Tyson Chandler, step up and rebound the ball in traffic.”
Mark Jackson on whether to go after Dirk Nowitzki’s injured finger:
“No question about it. And you wouldn’t have to tell me in a press conference. Everybody understands where he’s hurt and if you’re trying to win, it’s not playing dirty, it’s playing smart. Old school basketball says I’m going to hit him on that finger.”
Van Gundy, in response:
“Some guys in this league today would help him ice it.”
Jackson on Dallas’ more aggressive approach:
“They’re much more aggressive on both ends of the floor, defensively and offensively. They’re able to get quality looks as long as they’re patient and in attack mode offensively. If you’re Rick Carlisle, you have to like what’s going on in both ends of the floor.”
Jackson on Shaq’s retirement:
“Sad day for the NBA. Losing an all-time great, not just a great center but great player and truly one of the all-time great ambassadors for the game of basketball. Coolest 7-footer this world has ever seen.”
Van Gundy on Rick Carlisle’s technical:
“I don’t understand the technical foul call. Again it’s the NBA Finals. I’ve watched these two coaches and they have great decorum on the sidelines.”
Jackson on Dirk leading Dallas’ 4th quarter comeback:
“What a great game, and I love how down the stretch, they put the ball in their best player’s hand. And Dirk Nowitzki did not settle for a jump shot. He put the ball on the floor and I guess we can say that left finger is ok.”
