ESPN and Apparel Powerhouse Gildan Announce Multi-Year Collegiate Sponsorship Deal

ESPN and Gildan announce today a multi-year sponsorship agreement focused on college football and basketball, beginning in the fall of 2011. The partnership will revolve around multiple collegiate events that are owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), Inc., a subsidiary of ESPN.

ESPN and Gildan, the apparel giant, have scheduled a formal press conference for mid-June to announce the specifics of the partnership. Details on the press conference will be communicated at a later date.

Based in Montreal, Quebec, with US headquarters in Charleston, S.C., Gildan recently acquired Gold Toe® Moretz for $350M. Gildan is a vertically-integrated marketer and global manufacturer of quality branded basic apparel and are the leading active wear brand in the screen-print market in the U.S. and Canada. The brand is continuing to grow in Europe, Mexico and the Asia-Pacific region. The company sells T-shirts, sport shirts and fleece.

A part of the Internal Communications team at ESPN, I began with the network in 2010 as part of the College Sports PR team. Always an avid sports fan and not an athlete – I grew up a huge fan of the Hartford Whalers, while also watching my brother compete at different levels. I became the manager of several high school sports teams and continued that hobby into college. While at Quinnipiac, I worked in the Sports Information Department, which led me to a summer internship at the New Haven Ravens, a AA baseball team, and an eventual job with the Athletic Communications Department at the University of Connecticut. After my five-year stint at Connecticut, I spent six years as Director of Communications at the BIG EAST Conference in Providence, R.I. before joining ESPN.
