Furthering ESPN’s goal to serve sports fans on every device, ESPN Mobile today announced the launch of its flagship ESPN ScoreCenter app on Windows Phone 7.  This is the third major smartphone platform ScoreCenter has been brought to, which first launched on iOS for iPhone/iPod touch and later for Android devices.  The app was built in close collaboration with Microsoft to develop an ESPN experience customized for the unique Windows Phone 7 design.

ScoreCenter gives fans one-touch access to scores from hundreds of global leagues and thousands of teams in more than 15 sports (football, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, baseball, golf, cricket, rugby league, rugby union, tennis, auto racing and many college sports).  Powered by ESPN’s extensive global scores database, ESPN ScoreCenter allows fans to set personalized favorites and in many cases delivers the fastest and most reliable scores and game details available on mobile platforms.

Since its launch in June 2009, ScoreCenter has been downloaded more than 13 million times across iPhone and Android devices.  The launch of push notifications through the iPhone ScoreCenter app helped ESPN Mobile deliver nearly 3.5 billion alerts to fans in 2010, up nearly 300% from 2009.  Additionally, ESPN’s mobile Web site — which includes editions optimized for smartphone devices — is the leading mobile Web sports site and was the 8th most-trafficked site on the mobile Web overall in 2010.  Last year, it reached more than two-thirds of the users seeking sports on the mobile Web and averaged 12.4 million unique visitors a month, up 37% compared to the previous year.

ScoreCenter for Windows Phone 7 extends ESPN and Microsoft’s strong collaboration serving fans with unique and interactive ways to experience sports content.  Most notably in June 2010, the two companies signed a major content distribution deal to deliver ESPN on Xbox LIVE.  The service features live events from ESPN3.com, video on demand clips from ESPN.com and more to the Xbox LIVE platform on Xbox 360 consoles.
