A Historical Performance in Front of an Historical Crowd

41,800 – The Largest Single Day Winter X Games Crowd – Watch Clark Win Snowboard SuperPipe

Saturday night was a night of records on Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colo.  In front of a Winter X Games single-day record crowd of 41,800, Kelly Clark executed the first ever 1080 in Women’s Snowboard SuperPipe history to capture the gold.

“It was an incredible night,” Clark said. “I would have been happy to do either tonight, win the gold or do the 1080.  So to do both is incredible.”

With the win, Clark captured her eighth Winter X Games medal, more than any other woman in the SuperPipe.

21-year old Kaitlyn Farrington won the silver medal – her first Winter X Games medal – with a score of 85.66 which she attained on her first run.

“I was super excited to just land my first run,” said an exuberant Farrington. “I knew that I could just go for it after that and do what I wanted to do with a solid run under my belt. I am just really excited.”

With a top score of 80.00, the bronze medal went to Elena Hight.

“I always come out to here to have fun and it’s just good to do this in front of this crowd,” said Hight.

Last year’s winner and Aspen native, Gretchen Bleiler finished sixth.

The Snowboard SuperPipe competition is arguably one of the most exciting competitions in the world. The 587-foot long, 22-foot deep “U-shaped” SuperPipe is 75 feet from lip-to-lip with a pitch of 18 degrees.  The world-class pipe allows for maximum amplitude and speed, giving the riders space to perfect progressive tricks.

WINTER X GAMES 15

Winter X Games will celebrate its 15^th anniversary in Aspen/Snowmass, Colo. January 27-30, 2011, with live coverage on ESPN and ESPN2. This will mark the 10^th consecutive year Winter X Games will be held in Aspen and will feature new events, more than 200 athletes and primetime coverage on ESPN on Sun., Jan.30. In addition to 24 hours of live programming on ESPN, Winter X Games 15 will be offered for the first time on ESPN 3D, as well as on ESPN International, XGames.com, ESPN360.com, SportsCenter and ESPN2’s X Center.
