Rolland Wins Second Consecutive Skiing SuperPipe Gold

Aspen, Colo. – After his first two runs resulted in falls, many wondered if Kevin Rolland would be able to repeat his gold medal performance in Skiing SuperPipe.

His third run answered the questions, as Rolland executed a Double 1260, an Ali-oop 360 and a Switch 900 scoring a 93.66 to win his second consecutive gold medal in Men’s Skiing SuperPipe.

“Greatest night of my life,” Rolland said. “I won last year but this is better cause I fell on my first 2 runs but the last run I landed on my feet. This is crazy.”

Rolland held off Aspen native Torin Yater-Wallace, who at 15-years old, became the youngest male competitor to win a medal at Winter X Games.

“I don’t even believe this is real,” Yater-Wallace said of his silver medal performance.

Simon Dumont’s second run score of 90.33 earned him the bronze.

“I got a lower score than I expected but I feel pretty good,” Dumont said. “I think I had all I needed to bring home the gold but I just didn’t do it.”

The Skiing SuperPipe event at Winter X Games represents the progression of the sport and showcases the best pipe riders in the world.  The 567-foot long, 22-foot deep SuperPipe is 75 feet from lip-to-lip with a pitch of 18 degrees.  This translates into maximum amplitude and speed for the athletes to perform their tricks.
