Jamal Collier

NBA Reporter
Jamal Collier is an NBA reporter for ESPN, with a focus on the league’s Midwest teams, including the Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. Based in Chicago, his work appears across ESPN platforms, from in-depth digital features and breaking news on ESPN.com, to on-air segments for SportsCenter, NBA Today, and appearances on radio and podcasts such as The Hoop Collective.
Collier joined ESPN in September 2021. Known for his versatility and sharp storytelling instincts, he has reported from major events such as the 2025 NBA Finals, the Eastern Conference Finals from Madison Square Garden and profiled some of the NBA’s most exciting rising stars. One of his most memorable assignments was a playful, behind-the-scenes feature with Anthony Edwards and Justin Jefferson—a crossover between basketball and football that included competitive games, lighthearted debates, and a re-creation of one of Minnesota’s most iconic sports images. The story earned him the 2025 American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) Reader’s Choice Award for Best Entertainment & Celebrity Cover.
Prior to joining ESPN, Collier was the Chicago Bulls beat reporter at the Chicago Tribune from 2020 to 2021. He previously spent more than five years at MLB.com, serving as a general assignment reporter in New York and later as the Washington Nationals beat writer during their rise to World Series contention.
Collier graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism. In addition to his ASME award, his writing has been recognized by APSE, the Associated Press Sports Editors organization.
He is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). Outside of work, Collier enjoys working out, playing pickup basketball, and gaming.
