Serwa Takes Gold in Skier X Women’s Final
As Kelsey Serwa raced around the course with the lead, she knew five-time winner Ophelie David would be closing. As the racers neared the final jump, the speed increased and Serwa went all out.
She landed on her back, but she crossed the finish line first and captured the gold in Women’s Skier X.
“I knew the girls were close behind,” said Serwa. “I knew if I sent it off the jump I would cross the finish line on my back. I went for it and I am stoked to take away the gold medal.”
Serwa’s win ended David’s attempt at five-straight Skier X victories.
“Of course missing out on winning five-in-a-row is really disappointing,” said David. “The final was really intense and the others competitors are great – they ski so well and so fast with no fear.”
Switzerland’s Fanny Smith took home the bronze.
“I felt good, it was tough but I’m happy with my finish,” said Smith. “It was nice to finish in the final heat.”
A fusion of motocross and downhill racing, Skier X represents one of the most demanding competitions in ski racing today with skiers racing over tabletop jumps, banked turns, rollers and gaps.
