Spain’s Supercopa Delivers Strong Ratings for ESPN Deportes
Network scores second and third most-watched telecasts in Spanish-language Cable this year; the second leg match is the second highest rated telecast ever on ESPN Deportes

ESPN Deportes’ coverage of Spain’s 2012 Supercopa that featured two consecutive Clasico matches –FC Barcelona vs. Real Madrid-, delivered strong ratings record for the network. The tournament also drove ESPN Deportes to own the top three most-watched telecasts in Spanish-language cable thus far this year.

The second leg match that aired on Wednesday, August 29, was the second highest-rated telecast ever on ESPN Deportes and second most watched in Spanish-language cable television thus far this year– behind the Italy vs. Spain UEFA Euro 2012 final that aired on ESPN Deportes July 1 (12.9 Hispanic household coverage rating with 699,000 households and 1,125,000 viewers). The match reached 1.4 million Hispanic viewers (P2+), delivering an impressive 9.9 Hispanic household coverage rating with 546,000 households and 905,000 Hispanic viewers.

The first match on Thursday, August 23 delivered an 8.3 Hispanic household coverage rating with 458,000 households and 686,000 viewers. It ranks as the third most-watched telecast on Spanish cable this year (behind the 2012 Euro final and the 8/29 Supercopa match).

This year, the two legged tournament averaged a 9.1 Hispanic HH coverage rating with 501,000 Hispanic HH impressions and 795,000 Hispanic viewers (P2+). Ratings were up 65% over last year’s Supercopa (HH impressions up 78%, viewers up 57%). The 2011 Supercopa averaged a 5.5 Hispanic HH coverage rating with 282,000 Hispanic HH impressions and 507,000 Hispanic viewers (P2+)

Organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation since 1982, the Spanish Supercopa is celebrated every August, kicking off the official soccer season in Spain. ESPN Deportes will carry the tournament for the next two years.
